There is a new warning from State Board concerning the dip powder procedure. Although I do not offer this service due to my own feelings regarding the sanitary process regarding this service, I would like to share with my clients who may get this procedure elsewhere.

For those who aren't sure what the "dipping powder" procedure is, let me explain. This is a procedure where acrylic is applied via "dipping" to the client's nails. This trend is favorable to some, due to the various colors and glitters that the acrylic come in. I have not used this product because of the demonstration I got from a distributor of a popular brand; which I won't name. The demonstrator said that the client's were to dip their fingers in the same bottle. And if a client had a problem dipping in the same bottle, then present them with a separate dipping dish; but because it's an expensive product we were to "dump the product " back into the bottle. Now, you guys know that I am a stickler for my sanitation. There was now way that I was going to subject my clients to this madness. I found this procedure to be VERY unsanitary, it has a lot of steps and very expensive. Being as though I am working for myself, I would have to buy a lot of powders to be able to offer my clients the sanitary way of this procedure. And that my friend is very expensive!!! I have offered to get my clients who were interested in the service to purchase their "OWN" kits. At $100 a kit plus the price for me to do the procedure; I personally don't think its worth it.
So here's what you need to know if you get this done elsewhere to make sure that the salon is in compliance with the new rules:
Make sure the manicurist is using a new powder on you. It should be sealed and opened in front of you. The container should have a wrapping on it and the should be a seal once the top is popped.
Make sure that that they sanitize your hands and theirs.
Make sure the implements are in a sanitizing solution. It may be blue or clear.
Make sure that the implements were cleaned. If you know which technician you are getting and you're there waiting, be watchful! "Did you see them get new implements or did you see them get up after the client and clean those implements" . This is important because if they didn't and they are just using the same unclean implements on every client, you are at risk of getting a fungus or a wart. Don't be afraid to ask questions, YOU are the customer! You can always purchase your own implements on Amazon or at your local beauty supply and bring them with you. This way you know that your implements are used only on you. I have clients who bring their own, it does not offend me.
Here's an article that you can look at which outlines the new rules and what to look for:
Stay woke!!!! Until next time....so long my Lovebirds!!!!
